Externships

Está en: Subjects » Externships

The main aim of this module is to provide students with a better practical and professional grounding in knowledge structures, protection, conservation, dissemination and enhancement of artistic heritage. Externships are elective and take place preferentially in the second half of the MA programme, in the form of "academic training placements", organized, managed and coordinated jointly with the Externship Service of the University of Seville, under the guidance and supervision of a tutor at the said university. Students carry out tasks in collaboration with cultural institutions located in Seville, under the supervision of a MA programme professor responsible for coordinating externships; the said collaborative tasks are related to those covered in Block I "Cultural Heritage," in accordance with the requirements set out by the participating institutions.

Externships carry 4 ECTS credits, with 1 credit being equivalent to between 5-10 working hours. Externships – which are of an "academic training" nature – take place at public and private cultural institutions in Seville, with which the University of Seville has arranged and signed externship agreements. These institutions are as follows:

- Directorate-General of Museums. Regional Cultural Department. Andalusian Regional Government (body coordinating externships at the Fine Arts Museum of Seville, the Archaeological Museum of Seville, the Museum of Popular Art and Customs of Seville, the Andalusian Centre of Contemporary Art, the Torre de Oro Navy Museum, and other provincial museums).
- Valentín de Madariaga y Oya Foundation.
- BIACS Foundation (International Biennial for Contemporary Art Seville).
- Andalusian Parliament.
- Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation.
- José Manuel Lara Foundation.
- Institute of Culture and Arts of Seville (ICAS).

In order to be admitted to the Master's Degree in The Artistic Heritage of Andalusia and its Impact on Latin America and, therefore, to take this module, students must be in possession of an official Spanish university degree or one issued by a higher education institution of the European Higher Education Area that allows them to be admitted to MA programmes in the country issuing the degree.

Likewise, those students in possession of a degree issued by a country outside the European Higher Education Area will be admitted, without the need to have their degrees validated, prior verification by the University of Seville that they attest to a level of training equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university degrees and which allow holders to be admitted to postgraduate courses in the country issuing the degree. Admission by this means will not under any circumstances involve the official validation of degrees held by postgraduate candidates, or their recognition for any other purpose than that of taking the master's course.

Students will engage in a series of practical activities – previously analyzed and designed by the MA Programme Externship Commission and the host institutions – under the coordination and supervision of a professor of the MA programme (hereinafter Externship Tutor) and a representative of the host institution (hereinafter Institutional Tutor).

On completing their externships, students will write an externship progress report. The Institutional Tutor will also write a report on the tasks carried out by the students. Lastly, the Externship Tutor will issue a final report, on the basis of the other two aforementioned reports, which will include the grade obtained by the student in question.

Overall grades are expressed on a scale from 0-10, accompanied by one of the following quantitative evaluations: Fail (0-4.9 points), Pass (5-6.9 points), Merit (7-8.9 points), and Distinction (9-10 points). An "honours classification" will be awarded to candidates who have obtained a score of 9.0 or more. The number of "honours classifications" shall not exceed 5% of the number of students enrolled in a module in the corresponding academic course, unless there are less than 20, in which case only one "honours classification" will be awarded.
