Master's thesis

Está en: Subjects » Master's thesis

The master's thesis involves conducting a research or drafting a technical consultancy or advisory report. In both cases, work should be carried out individually, under the supervision of a professor of the MA programme and in accordance with the scientific quality criteria of a postgraduate course.

The master's thesis will be defended before an examination board within not more than a year after the commencement of the MA programme (in exceptional cases, students will be able to request an extension on justified grounds). Nevertheless, the organization, preparation and assessment of master's theses will be conducted in accordance with the University of Seville’s Master's Thesis guidelines.

Only the Academic Commission of the MA programme will be able to definitively assign research projects proposed by students, as well as their respective tutors. For the said assignation, the opinion of the participating departments will be taken into account, professors not being permitted to assign projects or tutors on their own account.

During the first weeks of lectures, the MA programme Coordinator will meet with the students with the aim of explaining to them the project and tutor assignation process. After projects and tutors have been assigned, the Academic Commission will propose the composition of the Examination Board.

Master's theses will be supervised by a professor-tutor. By means of tutorials, the professor-tutor of the master's thesis will play a dual role: monitoring the research activity of the student in question and offering him/her guidance in writing his/her thesis so as to ensure that the established objectives are met.

The organization, preparation and assessment of master's theses will be conducted in accordance with the Chancellor's Decision of 11 April 2007, regulating master's theses of the official postgraduate courses of the University of Seville, and the provisions established by the competent bodies of the said university. Thus, an examination board designated for that purpose by the Academic Commission will assess master's theses, which will have to be written individually and whose difficulty and final length will have to be in keeping with the number of ECTS credits that they carry, the knowledge and capabilities shown by students and always in accordance with the scientific quality criteria of a postgraduate degree.

In order to be admitted to the Master's Degree in The Artistic Heritage of Andalusia and its Impact on Latin America and, therefore, to take this module, students must be in possession of an official Spanish university degree or one issued by a higher education institution of the European Higher Education Area which allows them to be admitted to MA programmes in the country issuing the degree.

Likewise, those students in possession of a degree issued by a country outside the European Higher Education Area will be admitted, without the need to have their degrees validated, prior verification by the University of Seville that they attest to a level of training equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university degrees and which allow holders to be admitted to postgraduate courses in the country issuing the degrees. Admission by this means will not under any circumstances involve the official validation of degrees held by postgraduate candidates, or their recognition for any other purpose than that of taking the master's course.
